The football team has overcome a lot of different things in the past few years under the coaching of Will Siffin. The team captains, seniors Dana Onley and CJ Reese, have helped the team be motivated to have a great season. They have both been involved in the football program since middle school. Their goals are to make it to the playoffs and the state championship game in November. They have high expectations for this team, but it will be tough after starting off 2-6 going into the final games of the season.

The Captains

Onley is a linebacker and offensive tackle. Going into conference play, Onley’s been trying to motivate the team and get them hyped and focused in practice. Onley knows the team has made a lot of mistakes, but they have been working to be better.

“I feel good about the team going into the last few games. We’ve been working hard to get better and we’ve been limiting the mistakes which have hurt us in the other games,” Onley said.

Reese is another big role player who is the center, the head guy on the offensive line. He is looking to make it to the state championship with this team. He thinks the Huskies have a lot of potential and he believes in all of the players on his team. To get to his goal, Reese says he has to get everyone motivated and make sure everyone knows the plays and they are doing what they are supposed to.

He knows the offensive line is one of the biggest parts on a team.

“If you don’t have a line you don’t have a team,” Reese said.

Looking back at the last games, Reese thinks his team played fairly well but they still need to go to practice and get better every day so he is able to do his favorite things on the field winning, scoring touchdowns and getting pancake blocks.

The Huskies had tough conference games with the Ankeny Hawks, Lewis Central, Des Moines North, Urbandale and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson. The Huskies have 3 juggernaut teams on their schedule and it’s going to be a tough road for them. They have never played Ankeny or Lewis Central and they are two very good teams as both team made it to the playoffs last year. The team has a lot of good athletes and one of them is their starting junior quarterback Byron Jarrett who is 2nd in the state in passing with 2,061 yards and 17 touchdowns. But he said he would have not been able to do it without his offensive line and amazing receivers – and the captains.
