Boys state basketball tournament 2017

Came close 2 years in a row, is it the year to win it?

By Nick Johnson

The Hoover Huskies have come up short in the last couple years at the state tournament but that’s not stopping them from winning it all this year. The Huskies are led by senior Douglas Wilson who is averaging 18.3 points and 14.2 rebounds per game, and is trying to become Mr. Basketball.

The Huskies have only lost 4 games in the regular season. They also have a really hard path to Wells this season. They have difficult teams on their schedule like Des Moines Roosevelt and the defending state champions West Des Moines Valley. Hoover has already beat both of these team this season.

Some of the reasons the Huskies are working so hard is because they finally want to win after two years in a row of falling short of the title.

“I’ll be very disappointed if we lose because I want to win this for Doug,” said junior shooting guard Devonte’ Thedford.

Winning this title isn’t just a trophy and a banner it’s something that stays in the school and everyone hearts forever. The last time the huskies won it was back in 2006. It’s time for change in history.
